Dominick French, Family Mediator

Hello, I'm Dominick

I'm a family mediator based in Somerset, helping families across South Somerset and North Dorset navigate separation with dignity and understanding.

Before training as a mediator, I spent 30 years as a documentary filmmaker, working closely with people facing some of life's most challenging moments — grief, illness, family crisis. That work taught me how to listen deeply, hold space for difficult conversations, and help people find their own way through.

Having experienced separation both as a parent and as a child, I understand the emotional complexity involved. I combine that personal insight with professional training to help families communicate, find common ground, and reach agreements that work for everyone — especially the children.

How I Can Help

I offer mediation for families going through separation or divorce, helping you reach your own agreements without the cost and conflict of court.

Family Mediation & Child Arrangements

Working out how to co-parent after separation — where children will live, how time will be shared, and how you'll make decisions together about their future.

Divorce & Separation Mediation

A structured, supportive space to work through the practical and emotional aspects of ending a relationship, helping you both move forward.

Financial Mediation

Reaching fair agreements about property, savings, pensions and ongoing finances — often required before a court can approve a financial consent order.

What I Bring to Mediation

30 years of working with people in difficult circumstances has shaped how I approach mediation.

Deep Listening

Two decades of documentary work taught me to hear what people are really saying — and what they're not. I create space for both of you to feel genuinely heard.

Calm Under Pressure

I've filmed in hospitals, with families in crisis, and in high-stakes situations. I remain steady and focused when emotions run high.

Impartial & Fair

As a documentary maker, I'm trained to present multiple perspectives without bias. I help both parties feel valued without taking sides.

Personal Understanding

Having been through separation myself — as both a parent and a child — I understand the emotional weight of what you're facing.
